My name is Oscar Carrera, and I live and work in El Paso, TX. I work at Education Service Center Region 19 as a Professional Development Consultant; my focus areas are Career & College Readiness, Career & Technical Education, and Instructional Technology. Moreover, serve as an instructional designer for various projects within my organization.
My professional goals are the following: complete my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Educational Technology from UTRGV by December of 2024, and create and support learning teacher communities for Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Office, and Canva for Education. In addition, earn the Google Innovator certification and become a Canva ambassador by December 2023. Finally, I aspire to have a dual career as a college professor teaching educational technology courses and an instructional technology consultant supporting educational institutions at all levels.
Research: As artificial intelligence gains prominence in secondary education, a pressing need arises to delve into the perceptions of secondary teachers regarding the impact of AI on pedagogy. My dissertation will scrutinize how secondary teachers perceive the advantages and challenges of incorporating AI in the classroom and how this technology can transform conventional teaching methodologies. The research will identify the factors influencing teachers' perceptions of AI, including their technological competence, professional development, experience, and personal beliefs. Additionally, the study will explore the extent to which teachers feel prepared to integrate AI into their teaching practices and the training and support they require to use AI in their classrooms effectively.
